Take me out to the ball game! Take me out with the crowd!
We are deep into January’s snowy frigid darkness and I’m dreaming of summer! Instead of complaining we are choosing to sing the familiar baseball tune (with its original verses) and laugh through The Complete Nonsense of Edward Lear. May his poetry and silly wordsmithery encourage much laughter in your home this month!
The January issue of Force and Beauty contains ALL NEW poems and passages! Here’s the breakdown:
January Items:
- Edward Lear’s poetry and limericks. Start the new year off with some poetic nonsense!
- Heidelberg Lord’s Day 23. We’re finishing the section on the Apostles Creed.
- Folk Song Buffalo Gals. You might recognize this from It’s a Wonderful Life!
- Hymn: At the Name of Jesus
- Civics Exam Questions 58-67.
Winter Term Items
- Fun American Song: Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Prep for your spring and summer games with the original 1908 version with verses.
- Shakespeare Sonnet 116.
- Patriotic Speech: Devotion to an Ideal by Roosevelt
- Philippians 2:1-16. Our current sermon series is on Philippians and this passage contains the section often called ‘The Hymn of Christ.’
Check out the song links and a few audio files below. I record the selections for my weaker readers and as a help for recitation practice. Enjoy!
